The international Future Energy Solutions conference is organized in Lappeenranta already for the third time during September 10–11, 2024. The conference gathers energy experts from the European Commission, businesses as well as research communities to discuss and share the newest research about topical energy issues.

The event is organised at the City Hall of Lappeenranta, and it is aimed at workers and other people interested in the energy industry. Please note that the conference includes a fee and requires registration on the event’s website. The registration is open until August 31, 2024.

This year, the main theme of the conference is Accelerating the Green Transition. The topics include renewable energy solutions, green hydrogen and its opportunities, energy markets, energy efficiency and data solutions, future electrified mobile work machines as well as electric mobility.

Tuomo Sallinen, Mayor of the City of Lappeenranta, says that regional expertise and cooperation are significant strengths of the city.

– In Lappeenranta, we focus on close collaboration with different sectors. Therefore, we can proudly present the energy and environmental solutions that we have developed together with stakeholders, such as LUT University. The international Future Energy Solutions conference is a platform for sharing these exemplary solutions and shaping the future.

Concrete actions and solutions for an efficient energy system

In the conference, almost 30 experts will give presentations about diverse topics. At the start of the conference, Jukka Leskelä, CEO of Finnish Energy, will speak about the preconditions for a sustainable energy system and the role of hydrogen for Finland’s economy. Eero Ailio, Deputy Head of Unit at the European Union, introduces the energy landscape and EU energy regulations. Kati Ruohomäki, Chief Policy Adviser of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, will speak about accelerating green growth.

In the session regarding green hydrogen, Jero Ahola, professor of Electrical Engineering at LUT University who has been selected as the Innovation Professor of 2022, will introduce the power-to-X technology, and Kirsimarja Blomqvist, professor at the LUT University Business School, will introduce the P2X related collaboration. Power-to-x is a solution for addressing carbon dioxide emissions from industry and transport because it can be used in manufacturing synthetic fuels to replace fossil fuels.

Noora Hakkarainen, Development Manager of the City of Lappeenranta, says that the future possibilities of the energy sector look bright.

– There is a huge amount of projects and the sector is growing with green electrification and carbon neutral solutions.

– The speeches at the conference will highlight practical and global solutions. Reforming the energy system has brought energy topics closer to citizens. Citizens are interested in them, and actively participate in energy discussions, states Hakkarainen.
